DESCRIPTION
During the excursion you will see Nevsky Prospekt, Russian Admiralty, Saint Isaac’s Cathedral, Palace Square, the Spit of Vasilievsky Island, Peter and Paul’s Fortress, Savior on the Spilled Blood, Field of Mars, Winter Palace. Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg was founded by Peter the Great in 1703. Besides the ancient fortifications, one of the great attractions is Peter and Paul Cathedral, built by the architect Trezini in 1733, with the burial vault of Peter the Great and other Russian tsars. The Peter and Paul Cathedral is a unique example of Russian 18th-century architecture that has remained intact. For almost two centuries, it served as a burial-place for Russian emperors. The last Russian tsar - Nicholas II - and his family were buried in the cathedral's small St. Catherine chapel in 1998.
