History of Karelia’s places
Priozersk. Korela, Keksgolm, Kjakisalmi and Priozersk are the names of the same town, which was renamed several times during its longer than seven-centuries-history. Formerly the fortress Korela was on an island of the river Vuoksa (its ancient name was Uzerva, Uzorva), but because of the downturn of a level of the water in the river one of the sleeves of the ancient channel dried up, and the fortress appeared not on the island, but on a cape.
Sortavala is a small town that doesn't look very russian. For some time it belonged to the territory of Finland, that's why today we can see there different nice finnish buildings.
Ruskeala. Pearl of a mountain park “Ruskeala” is a Marble canyon with the surface and underwater tunnels, drifts and shafts.
